Respect and inclusivity

We are an inclusive society and whether on-line or in person, we treat all members with respect and dignity, regardless of their background, beliefs, or identity. Our committee aims to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Our society meetings are conducted within the spirit of mutual respect. We recognise that the speakers have been asked to present the topic within a specified timeframe. Discussion and questions are encouraged at the end of each presentation, unless the speaker advises otherwise, we do not interrupt the presentation.

On-line presentations and when on-line during a hybrid talk: We mute our audio during presentations. Chat can be used if there is an issue or item we wish to raise.

Commitment to Learning and Growth of all members

Our society is based on the sharing of knowledge of astronomy, and we encourage personal and collective growth through learning and development. Members are encouraged to offer support and assistance to fellow members where we can, fostering a spirit of community.

Communication and interaction

We take responsibility for our own actions and their impact on others and maintain professionalism in all communications, both online and in person. In the rare case that there is a conflict between persons, or a conflict of interest, we bring this to the notification of a committee member. Our committee is committed to resolve issues through dialogue, consultation or referral to the appropriate organisation if there is an issue that must be dealt with legally.

We check with the committee before using our association with the society for personal or professional purposes, especially on-line or in the media.

Outreach

We prioritise the safety and well-being of all members and report any behaviour or incidents that compromise safety or well-being. All outreach/public activities require us to have a Working with Children check and be mindful that members represent Sydney City Skywatchers and our actions reflect on the club.

We are always polite when interacting with other members and the public and present a good image of the club, something the public would want to join.

Conclusion

We are a friendly society which has existed since 1895.  This code of conduct serves as a foundation for building a positive and productive environment within Sydney City Skywatchers, in person, online and during outreach activities. By adhering to these principles, we support all members.

Violations of this code will be discussed by the committee and appropriate action taken.
