John Tebbutt's Observatory : 22 July 2023
John Tebbutt was the first president of the New South Wales branch of the British Astronomical Association (now Sydney City Skywatchers). On 21st May a number of Sydney City Skywatchers members went to the launch of an exhibition called 'Starry Nights: the World of John Tebbutt' and an associated website commemorating the life and work of John Tebbutt, Australia's best known amateur astronomer at the Hawkesbury Regional Museum in Windsor NSW. After the launch a few members went back to Tebbutt's observatory and had a tour of the observatory (photo below). There is a new opportunity for members and non-members to visit Tebbutt's observatory on 22 July as outlined below:
The Hawkesbury Historical Society Inc. are having a viewing night open to the public on
Saturday 22nd July 2023 starting at 5:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit this historic place in its beautiful rural setting and see the original 8” Grubb Refractor Telescope installed in 1888 by John Tebbutt himself.
Bookings and payment are essential PRIOR to the event as limited participants can be accommodated. The event will proceed in all but severe rain.Cost: $10:00 singles $15.00 family. Includes supper.
